During a meeting with ambassadors from Arab nations, Al-Sudani stated that the Iraqi government is monitoring terrorist movements and has initiated joint actions with Jordan and the international coalition. He emphasized that the changes faced by the region since October 7, 2023, have unprecedented consequences for Arab countries.

The Prime Minister assured that Iraq has communicated with various leaders and Arab allies regarding the situation in Syria. He noted that Iraq is focused on respecting the will and designations of the Syrian people while ensuring the rights of minorities and acknowledging the ethnic, religious, and social diversity present in Syria.

This highlights the importance of collaboration among Arab nations to support Syria’s sovereignty over its territories.

Al-Sudani expressed concern about the potential repetition of past atrocities against minorities and ethnic groups at the hands of terrorism, given the increasing presence of ISIS elements in Syria. He also pointed out that exposure to ethnic and religious diversity in Syria could have repercussions in the region, especially in Iraq, due to the presence of sacred sites and the possibility of attacks aimed at inciting conflict.

In this context, he warned that the current situation in Syria is very similar to that of Iraq in 2003, suggesting that his government could offer advice to prevent similar mistakes from being made in Syria. He expressed hope that the current Syrian government would be aware of Arab countries’ concerns and provide positive guarantees.

Al-Sudani concluded by emphasizing the preparedness of Iraqi forces and their security and intelligence capabilities, stating that remnants of defeated ISIS terrorist groups no longer pose a threat to Iraqi territory. He highlighted strong relations with Arab brothers and friends through high-level coordination, which was preceded by a plan two years ago to strengthen and secure the border with Syria, supported by a broad national position backing the government and its political path.
